Applications

The heat pipe itself is not a heating or cooling device. Heat pipe assemblies are used for moving heat away from the input area (cooling - the most common application) or for moving heat into the output area (heating). Heat pipe assemblies typically have three parts:

The heat input assembly;	The heat output assembly.
The heat transport assembly (the heat pipe);

Heat pipe assemblies provide thermal management solutions in all mediums: liquid, solid and gas.

Compared to heat pipes, the traditional methods of cooling (extruded metal heat sinks, fans, water, air conditioning, etc. ) all have inherent limitations in size, weight and efficiency. More and more the limiting factor in systems of all kinds is the inability to dissipate heat. The desire for more power in smaller packages with less weight often cannot be achieved because of excess heat.

Noren Products designs and manufactures solutions to its customers' thermal management problems. During its 35-year history, Noren Products has designed and shipped tens of thousands of different heat pipes and cooling systems. As a manufacturing company, all our products are designed and built to a set of customer specifications.

• A 65 pound heat sink was replaced with a heat pipe cooling system weighing only 3.5 pounds (weight reduced by 95%). The heat pipe system even had an improved thermal performance.
• A complete liquid cooling system weighing 13.5 pounds was replaced with a single heat pipe heat sink weighing only 4.3 pounds. The resulting heat sink was also 1/4 the physical size, required no electrical power and was less expensive. The unit cooled 400 watts with a 12° C temperature rise.
• A 3000 watt TWT cooled with a large copper heat sink, 9.5 X 3.7 X 12" long with a temperature rise of 87° C at 600 CFM of airflow, was replaced with a heat pipe heat sink only 4.5" long. The heat pipe heat sink had only a 44° C rise with 300 CFM of air.
